Take your joy on a journey
Around your neighborhood.
Spread it like a rash
That can’t be washed away
And the cares of the day.
Set it into motion,
Cause a commotion,
Give it a promotion.
However you do it,
Make it your devotion
Take your joy on a journey.
This sketch is suppose to be a racetrack, but it looks like a smile to me. I know a child who is passionate about drawing tracks. I plan to surprise him with this.
The poem came as I thought about how he practically glowed today when I showed him how to use his eraser to create art. He left with excited intention to try this. He smiled and giggled for the first time in my presence. His joy traveled home with me.
Isaiah 55:12-13 (ESV)
“For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace: the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress;
instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall make a name for the Lord, an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”
I stand in need Desperate for more Than what I see Than what I hear. Lord, draw me near.
I get so lost In life’s mundane No place of peace Test after test. Lord, I need rest.
I need Your hope. I need Your peace. I need Your touch So very much.
Then I can live Above this pain Above this fear. Then I can soar To where there’s more.
As a teacher at a junior high I meet many young people who live in darkness. They are looking for something, but they can’t name it. Many are empty and rarely express any emotion but sorrow. Others are angry and lash out at the least provocation. There are many others who pretend to be happy, but when no one is watching, their eyes reveal the pain they feel inside. All of the faces I see seem to be searching for more. I feel encouraged that they are searching because if they are searching, that means they have hope.
I pray for them to find hope in positive places. I pray they will come to know the deep love of the Lord. Then I try to be the giver of hope and love because loving them will last longer than the math lessons I teach. Love will last forever.
My heart is full to overflowing.
I have so much to thank Him for.
I felt alone and afraid.
I was lost in darkness.
But God saw me there.
With great mercy
The song I am sharing today brings back memories of my teen years. I wanted to know God, but I also wanted to fit in with my friends. I remember some very good friends laughing at me because I read my bible and prayed regularly. I was embarrassed at first. I even stopped for a while so that I could fit in. Eventually, I felt drawn back to the word, but I have to admit that the years when I stopped seeking the Lord, I got caught up in things that were emotionally and physically dangerous. I learned that giving my body to drugs, alcohol and boys only caused pain. I was miserable and found myself in a very dark place.
My change came around the time I had a dream that I died. I knew that I wasn’t ready to die and began to pray for the Lord to help me and He did. I am so thankful that His plan for my life was never far away. Salvation was never beyond my reach. I had to make unpopular decisions. I spent a great deal of time alone and my friends “had fun” without me. My family didn’t understand me, but the more I sought the Lord, the more changes I saw in myself.
I learned to love myself. I learned to love others the right way. I learned how to walk in the Light. When I started walking in the Light, the darkness lost its power.
Romans 5:8 But Christ proved God’s passionate love for us by dying in our place while we were still lost and ungodly!
It’s always fascinating to me to see sun shining in the middle of a rain shower. It’s as though God is saying, “I know what you need. You may be in a very dry place right now, but I am watching and I care. You are not going to perish. I will satisfy your thirst. It may seem like it’s taking too long, but I am always on time. I love you.”
When the world tries to make you feel less than worthy, less than who you really are. Remember there is a God who knows the real you and He loves you. He loves you with no strings attached. He is waiting for you to bring your adoration and your heart to Him. He will accept you just as you are.
