Joy in the Unknown

If you don’t know what you are to be

Or exactly where you belong.

Others may overlook you

And reject the love you have shown.

They may even walk away

Leaving you feeling all alone.

You may find yourself lost

Invisible in the unknown.

But you have something inside of you

A light that must be shown.

Embrace the obscurity and rejection

And remember you’re not the only one

Others have misunderstood.

Many have survived the same storm.

So keep shining your light

So that those who come behind you can find joy in the unknown.

1 John 3:1-3 (TPT)

Look with wonder at the depth of the Father’s marvelous love that he has lavished on us! He has called us and made us his very own beloved children.

The reason the world doesn’t recognize who we are is that they didn’t recognize him.

The reason the world doesn’t recognize who we are is that they didn’t recognize him.

Beloved, we are God’s children right now; however, it is not yet apparent what we will become. But we do know that when it is finally made visible we will be just like him, for we will see him as he truly is.

And all who focus their hope on him will always be purifying themselves, just as Jesus is pure.

You are a Gift

you are a gift
that many rarely see
the gift so unique
only a few will perceive
that the gift
as wonderful as you
when unwrapped
cannot be described

You may not think so, but you are one of God’s many gifts to the world.

What we see on the outside is the wrapping of a treasure that many misunderstand.

When you open up and set the talented person hiding within free, look out! The world will be in shock, because they didn’t realize what a blessing you really are.

Psalm 127:3 (NIRV)
Children are a gift from the Lord. They are a reward from him.

1John 3:1 (NCV)
The Father has loved us so much that we are called children of God. And we really are His children. The reason the people in the world do not know us is that they have not known Him.

Sing Like the Trees

You can no longer hide
Who you were meant to be.
Like the leaves on a tree
You have what the world needs to see.
You have a voice
It’s time to make the choice
To share it so the world can rejoice
And glorify the Creator of the gift you have inside.

Romans 12 The Message (MSG)

Place Your Life Before God

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you:

Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering.

Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.

Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God.

You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it.

Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

Right Now

You may feel lost and abandoned

Right now

You may be disappointed and frustrated

Right now

You may be confused and hurt

Right now

You might be afraid of what you’re seeing

Right now

There is more than what you see

Right now

Look beyond the moment and grasp this truth

Right now won’t last forever

Each day is a fresh start

Treat each like the gifts they are

Open each one with an open heart.

Train Ride Through Darkness

The doors were open wide
So I stepped inside

And took a window seat for this ride.

I wanted to see the places
To watch the faces
Of those who darkness chases.

A little girl whose face is round
Sitting alone on the playground
Not a friend to be found.

A misunderstood teen
Wishing to be seen
By people’s faces buried in their screens.

A new mother alone with her babe
Hoping no mistakes will be made
Can’t find relief from nerves frayed.

A man sitting alone
Not ready to go home
To face a marriage where love is long gone.

People were walking along
As if nothing is wrong
Pretending to be strong.

I realized this is not my ride.
I refuse to hide.
The possibilities for life are wide.

So I get off the train
Shook off the strain
And started living again.

Darkness will reach out to all of us at some point. We may even take a ride on that train. But we have power within us to get off.

We have the gift of choice.

For some there are clinical reasons for the darkness and medical help is necessary.

For others, we simply have to decide, “This is not my ride,” and get off that train. If we are lonely and afraid, we have a Helper who will show us the path to a brighter day.

Psalm 18:28 (TPT)
God, all at once you turned on a floodlight for me!
You are the revelation-light in my darkness,
and in your brightness I can see the path ahead.

A Quadrille of Hope

I stand in need
Desperate for more
Than what I see
Than what I hear.
Lord, draw me near.

I get so lost
In life’s mundane
No place of peace
Test after test.
Lord, I need rest.

I need Your hope.
I need Your peace.
I need Your touch
So very much.

Then I can live
Above this pain
Above this fear.
Then I can soar
To where there’s more.

As a teacher at a junior high I meet many young people who live in darkness. They are looking for something, but they can’t name it. Many are empty and rarely express any emotion but sorrow. Others are angry and lash out at the least provocation. There are many others who pretend to be happy, but when no one is watching, their eyes reveal the pain they feel inside. All of the faces I see seem to be searching for more. I feel encouraged that they are searching because if they are searching, that means they have hope.

I pray for them to find hope in positive places. I pray they will come to know the deep love of the Lord. Then I try to be the giver of hope and love because loving them will last longer than the math lessons I teach. Love will last forever.

Psalm 34:17-18 (NIRV)

Godly people cry out and the Lord hears them. He saves them from all their troubles. The lord is close to those whose hearts have been broken. He saves those whose spirits have been crushed.

Remind Me

When dark clouds hover
And disappointment shakes me
You send a peaceful messenger
To remind me, I am not alone.

When disappointments come, and they will, it is very important not to get so caught up in our emotions that we forget to look up.

We must follow David’s example and remind ourselves of all we have to be thankful for. We must remember that no matter what happens God promised to never leave us. He will never stop loving us.

Psalm 43:5

Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God. – Psalm 43:5
